November "Student Night" Meeting - Why the Lights Go Out (and what can be done about it!)


Please plan to attend the November 2, IEEE Section Meeting where we will be hosting our Student Chapters during a presentation about a new “pulse closing” technology. The presentation will also describe the installation and operation of this product on Alabama Power Company’s system.

ADDITIONALLY, The Alabama Section will be presenting awards to each of our Student Chapters based on the attendance and activity level of their membership for the past year.

By popular demand, our meeting will be at Lloyd’s Restaurant on Hwy 280.

Greg Bendall
Topic: Introduction to Pulse Closing Technology
Biography:

Greg Bendall graduated from Auburn University in 1971 with an Electrical Engineering Degree. After graduation he went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and worked in their field sales organization in Chattanooga, TN, Charlotte, N.C., and Raleigh, N.C. and moved to Birmingham, AL in 1986 to call on Alabama Power Company and Southern Company Services. He has been active in IEEE sections in Chattanooga, Charlotte, and Birmingham holding various offices in each of the locations and was the section chairman for the Alabama Section in 1993-94. Greg is currently a Senior member in IEEE.

Bob Cheney
Topic: Implementation of Pulse Closing Technology
Biography: Robert (Bob) Cheney began working at Alabama Power Company in 1978 as a field engineer. He is currently serving as a Principal engineer in the Distribution Engineering support department. Part of his duties in this role are the initiation and the implementation of new operating practices made possible by using modern electronic controls now available on switches and reclosers. Bob graduated from Auburn University with B.S. in Electrical Engineering and later received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from UAB.
