IEEE CTCN Monthly Meeting, Wednesday, January 24, 2018: The Drone of Drones

Speaker: Philip Wheat

Biography: Philip Wheat is an industry veteran who has been active in the computer industry for over 20 years. With experience stretching back to the beginnings of the PC era, he has remained active on the leading edges of technology focusing on embedded systems, knowledge management, and sensor technologies. He is one of the few who has worked with SharePoint since the original beta, built his own microprocessor, and who has had robotics projects featured in the press and on TV shows around the world. He is currently CTO and Chief Architect of WBC Drone - focused on the usage of various technologies to assist in Drone management and safety.

Abstract: It seems everywhere you turn these days there's something about Drones. Yet the information tends to be at once both scattered in subject and specific to one particular type of Drone - QuadCopters. But the industry itself has much more reach and potential - yet has many hazards from both malevolent and untrained users and regulatory systems that are much less agile than the technology and the industry itself. We'll take a look at the various industry components that make up assorted drone markets, and the potentials they promise.
