UCSD and IEEE are co-sponsoring a 1.5 day workshop from May 24-25th.   The workshop will provide attendees with an in-depth introduction to and exploration of healthcare applications for emerging blockchain-based technologies.  These include a primer on the technology, practical approaches to designing a conceptualizing blockchain systems, legal and regulatory considerations, and privacy compliance among others. More focused discussions and a design session on various healthcare verticals such as medical devices, genomics, supply chain, and clinical trials will explore design, technical, and practical issues unique to each vertical.

 

At our March meeting, Mr. Mackey will preview some of the topics that will be covered at the workshop as well as give an introduction to blockchain.  He will also discuss some of the many verticals that will be able to use this much talked about technology.

 

Everyone is welcome at our meeting, and registration is open for the workshop in May.

 

Speaker Bio:

 

Tim Ken Mackey is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Global Public Health at UC San Diego School of Medicine, and is Director of Healthcare Research and Policy at UC San Diego - Extension. His work focuses on a broad array of multidisciplinary topics in domestic and global public health and technology as it relates to the healthcare sector.  He has extensive professional experience including working over a decade in industry and consulting for the World Health Organization, U.S. State Department, and U.S. Department of Justice.  He is also the current co-Chair of the IEEE Supply Chain/Clinical Trials Technology Implementation Industry Connections Program, which is specifically working on blockchain applications for healthcare.

 

 

Bonus Presentation:  Swedish American Chamber of Commerce

 

We will also have a short (10 to 15 minute) presentation from the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce (SACC).  They will discuss their membership benefits and business consulting services.  These services could be very helpful for people starting or revamping their consulting practice.
