Mark A. Sorrells, P.E. of Schneider Electric

You’ve sized the switchgear, transformer, feeders, panelboards and MCC’s. Now for the hard part – coordination with the other disciplines. CSA – seismic requirements, tray and conduit entryways, fire wall rating, egress pathways. M&P – HVAC, ductwork, sprinklers, passthrough piping. Process – Equipment list, including motor sizes. Note: Our list will continue to grow as we experience more challenges.


Mark obtained his Bachelor Electrical Engineering from the Ga. Institute of Technology in 1985, where he graduated on the Cooperative Plan with Honor.

Mark is currently employed by WOOD plc as a Senior Technical Specialist in their Electrical Engineering Department. He has worked on a variety of projects in cement, food & beverage, chemical and power as a consulting engineer. His most recent assignments have been in the renewable’s arena (Solar PV), serving as a checker for IFC documents and performing ampacity calculations for AC and DC feeders.

Mark’s prior experience includes several years in both pulp & paper and the nuclear fields. He also worked for a year in switchgear testing and repair.

Mark is a Registered PE in the states of Arizona, Georgia and Tennessee. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. His society memberships include the Power & Energy Society and the Industrial Application Society. He is a former officer in both the Tri-Cities and CSRA sections of IEEE, as well as going through the office rotation of the Atlanta Chapter of IAS. He also served as a member of the Cement Industry Council in the IAS.

He has made five presentations to IEEE-IAS Atlanta. He has also presented to the Ga Chapter of the IAEI [International Association of Electrical Inspectors], the AECA [Atlanta Electrical Contractors Association], and given in-house training sessions at his former employers.
