IEEE Vancouver Windows 10 Hackathon
The IEEE Vancouver Joint Computing Chapter, SFU Faculty of Applied Sciences, and Microsoft are excited to announce our next hackathon.
What we are going to hack?
Come hack a Windows 10 universal app together in solo, in a team of 3 people. Don’t have a team? You can join one after project ideas are pitched. Pitch your idea and get others to join you. Your hack can be any type of Windows 10 app except games. So, you can build one of the following:
- Any type of business applications including news, productivity, photos and videos, entertainment etc.
- You can modify your existing web site and implement Windows 10 features there, using JavaScript (see: http://channel9.msdn.com/Series/Developers-Guide-to-Windows-10-Preview/14 20:00 - 25:00 timeframe)
Devices
Please, bring own devices (laptop, Surface 2, etc.) with the latest public Windows 10 Technical Preview build and Visual Studio 2015 to build Windows 10 apps. If you cannot install Windows 10 on your own PC, there will be a very limited number of Surface 2 devices that we can loan out. Government issued picture ID is required for loaning out a device.
Judging Criteria & Prizes
Each team will be given a chance to demo their app to other participants and a panel of judges. Judges will score each app on the following criteria: UAP implementation, plat-form integration, store availability, and the app idea.
30% - UAP implementation. If your application supports different screen resolutions, display orientations and platforms you have a chance to get more points. We are going to test your application using Windows and Windows Phone devices and we are going to play with different window’s sizes there;
30% - Platform integration. Implement Windows features like Live tiles, notifications, platform extensions etc. and get more points;
20% - Store availability. Everybody will have a chance to create account in the Store during hackathon event. Just pack and publish your application and get additional points for your project;
20% - Idea. Be sure that “Hello world” application will not win the contest!
The top 3 teams will be given a prize. Prizes are:
1st Place: Surface 3 Pro
2nd Place: XBox One
3rd Place: Nokia Lumia 635
Prizes are subject to availability and may change without notice. Each team member will receive a prize provided there are no more then 3 team members.
