Topic:

Becoming a Rock Star!

We are all knowledgeable in our specific area of interest. We all strive to increase our knowledge, we all strive to expand our skills. All of us can reach for the stars, can become world renowned in our field of interest. The road to achieving all this is within our grasp. The difficulty is that there are so many many ‘roads’ in front of us. Knowing which ‘road’ to embark upon might be our dilemma.

The right road for academics may be a matter of adjusting one’s pedagogical approach; the road for industrial scientists and engineers may a matter of staying current in your field. BUT there are a few step that everyone can take to become a rock star in any field of endeavor (e.g., identify and engage a mentor, increase the difficulty and scope of the problems (even if imaginary), dive down deeply in the knowledge pool (more deeply than your colleagues), measure twice and cut once), and more. The full presentation will dive more deeply into this topic!
