SF Power and Energy Society Technical Presentation February 15 2017

Share

Topic: Using Drones in Advanced Technology

Speaker: David Elizondo, Quanta, LLC

This presentation will cover the key characteristics and applications of ground based robots that have been used for energized transmission line work and maintenance. A summary of a past construction project using energized work techniques for a key application of ground based robots, including structure replacement or re-conductoring will be presented in detail, highlighting the benefits of the application of the advanced technology and techniques.  Economic benefits of energized transmission line work and transmission line design changes that would facilitate the introduction of robotics for transmission line work. A methodology that quantified the economic benefits of energized transmission line work will be presented along with example of past construction project that have shown positive economic benefits of energized work when compared against de-energized work.  The key characteristics of new transmission line that would be design to be “robotic friendly” will be described in details based on past research work.

Lunch will be provided (includes vegetarian). There will be a $5 fee to IEEE Members and a $10 fee to Non Members. Payments to be made in person (cash or check) at the event.
