University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility Lab Tours and Demos

Nanofabrication is the meeting ground of engineering, biology, physics, medicine and chemistry. Most of these disciplines converge at the nanoscale towards the same building blocks, principles, tools of investigation and fabrication. The University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility (UIMF) offers a common platform for the convergence of multiple scientific and engineering disciplines and facilitates collaborative research with strategic partners and information exchange. The UIMF is an interdisciplinary central research facility and service center that provides access to state-of-the-art equipment in the areas of micro and nanofabrication, metrology, device characterization and offers expertise and advanced training courses in the same related areas. It is an open-research facility serving the academic, industrial and governmental researchers across campus and beyond. Key research areas enabled include micro- and nanofabrication techniques, optical devices, sensors, micro/nano-electronic devices, plasmonics, graphene electronics, photovoltaic, bio-medical and micro- and nanofluidics.

Hands-on demos and lab tours: Visitors will wear cleanroom suits to visit the lab where the state-of-the-art tools on nanofabrication that include thin-film, etching and lithography are housed. Visitors will be provided with hands-on demonstrations on various tools and processes.

Space is limited to 40 attendees therefore registration is REQUIRED.  Registering will also provide you with a reminder email on the day of the event as well as allow us to ensure enough refreshments/seating for your attendance.

Biography:

Aju Jugessur received a Ph.D. degree in Optoelectronics, Electronic engineering, with a focus on Nanofabrication, from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University, Canada. His expertise is in the area of photonic devices, nanolithography, and nanofabrication. He was a Senior Research Scientist and Lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, Canada, where he spearheaded the establishment and development of the state-of-the-art Nanolithography Facility. He has introduced courses on nanolithography and micro- and nanofabrication that he is currently teaching. He is currently the Director of the University of Iowa Microfabrication Facility and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. His research interests are at the crossroads of several areas such as photonic crystals, nanofabrication and optical sensing. He has authored numerous scientific and technical journal publications. He is a Member of IEEE and the American Nanosociety.

NOTE2: A thorough gowning process involving 2 additional steps is required due to nanoscale fabrication as any particulate contamination will impact the processes.
