SF Power and Energy Society Technical Presentation July 20 2016

Topic: Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing Systems - Operational & Security Technology for Critical Infrastructure

Speaker: Greg McElyea, Americas Business and Sales Manager, AP Sensing

Countries, states, cities and our Societies at Large depend upon strategic energy and transportation infrastructure. The security and efficient operation of critical infrastructure assets are fundamental to our freedom, way-of-life and prosperity. Without them, our economic power and growth would severely diminish, possibly die. These most important assets require the most stringent security measures with little room for error. Efficient real-time operation and monitoring with Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing can help prevent catastrophic events.

Our speaker will discuss how Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing, a cost effective, transformational sensing technology, is used for Security, EHV/HV Transmission Line, Pipeline & Transportation Monitoring purposes. This presentation will focus on the following distribution topics:

  • Perimeter/Site Security
  • Transmission Line Monitoring
  • Pipeline Integrity

Lunch will be provided (includes vegetarian). There will be a $5 fee to IEEE Members and a $10 fee to Non Members. Payments to be made in person (cash or check) at the event.

The SF PES Chapter AdCom is mindful of our environment and food waste.  As a courtesy, please email our Secretary, Elizabeth Waldren (waldrene@bv.com) no later than the day before the event if you absolutely need to cancel your reservation.  Thank you!
