TOPIC: Introduction To Pen(etration) Testing: A Workshop

Penetration testing (also called pen testing) is the practice of testing a computer system, network or Web application to find vulnerabilities that an attacker could exploit.

Learn the details, in a hands-on 2-hour workshop format, from our very own Jo3 McCarthy - founding member of IEEE OC CyberSecurity Special Interest Group (SIG).

Attendees will be provided with a (free) bootable USB drive; with a Kali Linux image.

We will be exploring the basics of penetration testing.


By the end of the session, attendees will be able to find systems on a network, identify potential targets and learn about various exploits that could be used to compromise the target systems.

Biography:

 

Jo3 has been developing software for decades. He has worked for various companies of various sizes from startups to Fortune 500s. He has a very strong interest in hacking and cybersecurity.

He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Information and Computer Sciences from The University of California, Irvine.
