Topic: Advanced Control of Distributed Energy Resources

Speaker: Slavko Vasilic, Ph.D. P.E., Technical Expert, Schneider Electric

The presentation will assess the system integration and dynamic performance of modern DERs: solar, wind, storage, and others. The emphasis will be on their contribution to the grid's reliability and efficiency, and their resilience toward grid faults and disturbances. The following aspects will be discussed:

  • Overview of DER and Interconnection Guidelines
  • Active Power Ramping and Curtailment
  • Voltage Regulation
  • Power Factor and Reactive Power Regulation
  • Frequency Control
  • Ride-through Faults and Disturbances
  • Anti-Islanding
  • Disconnection and Reconnection
  • Weak vs Strong Grid
  • Impacts on Quality of Electricity
  • High-Penetration of Renewables

Lunch will be provided (includes vegetarian). There will be a $5 fee to IEEE Members and a $10 fee to Non Members. Payments to be made in person (cash or check) at the event.
