Selection & Application of Instrument Transformers

Please plan to attend this meeting of the Industry Applications Society. The speaker will be David Ward, Business Development Manager at Instrument Transformer Equipment Corporation (ITEC).

The presentation will include a basic review of current transformers (CT’s) including accuracy, burden and other IEEE ratings. The presentation will contrast metering class CT’s from relaying class CT’s, and provide a discussion on voltage transformers (VT’s). Questions addressed will include:

  • What are the differences between metering & relaying CT’s?
  • How does a relay CT’s steady state performance compare to its response during saturation?
  • What are the considerations for picking the correct CT?
